2019 Educational Support Awards

In May 2019 our Chapter held the Excellence in Education awards luncheon to recognize Delaware County schools, public school employees, selected winners from the Delaware County Science Fair and students seeking a career in public education. The awards are the Lauretta Woodson Awards, the Educational Grant Awards, Delaware County Science Fair winners in four categories, and the Lauretta Woodson Scholarships. The Educational Grant and Lauretta Woodson School District Awards are given to selected school districts within Delaware County on a rotating basis. The Educational Support Committee under the leadership of John Ruth is proud to announce the 2019 awardees listed below:

​Lauretta Woodson Awards

Rose Tree Media School District - $100 each and framed certificate
  • Teacher Award - Kimberly Michaels, Rose Tree Elementary School
  • Support Staff Award - Jennifer Blythe, Springton Lake Middle School

​Educational Grant Awards - Upper Darby School District 
    Kathleen Cain, Westbrook Park Elementary School

Lauretta Woodson Scholarships - $5,000 each
  • Sarah Hughes, Penncrest High School, Rose Tree Media School District
  • Zoe Demetriades, Upper Darby High School, Upper Darby School District

Frank Monaghan Memorial Scholarship - $1000
    Johnna Diehl, Sun Valley High School, Penn-Delco School District

Delaware County Science Fair Awards - $50 each
  • Zach Finley - Engineering (Factors Affecting the Route of Cetaceans)
  • Stanley Gian - Environmental Science  (RSA Encryption)
  • Aziyah Reed - Zoology (Low Cost and Energy Efficient Audio Based Security System)
  • Samiha Zarin - Computer Science  (The Seebeck Effect on Humid Air & Water)
NOTE: All students are Freshman at Upper Darby High School and all won First Place in the 9th Grade Division for their category. Not pictured below.
