PASR Statement on Racial Justice - July 29, 2020
In these days of continued social change, The Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR), denounces racism in all its forms. We wish to acknowledge the pain and anger being expressed by People of Color in protests around the country from years of unequal treatment. We also denounce inequality in any form as well as violence against any minority group in the United States. We support and practice empathy and understanding of different points of view. PASR also recognizes that the diversity of our members and the citizens of this country is one of our greatest strengths.
Places we visited and enjoyed included the Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, in Philadelphia, the Kimmel Center Verizon Hall for the Philly Pops Christmas Show, and the Nemours Estate for the Christmas display followed by lunch at the DuPont Country Club. Not pictured was our January 2020 visit to the Hedgerow Theatre for a performance of Nunsense followed by dinner at the Iron Hill Brewery in Media. FUN TIMES before the shut-down.
PASR Delaware County Chapter volunteers led by John DellaGuardia, chair of the Social Services Memorial Honor Fund repacked, tagged, and delivered Poinsettia to our members in retirement communities and nursing facilities. Our members look forward to this event each year and appreciate the efforts of our Chapter in sharing holiday wishes.
Our PASR Delaware County Chapter held our Fall Luncheon at the Granite Farms Estates on November 6, 2019 featuring a Celebration of Service. Awards were given to individuals that provide service to our Chapter and to the greater community. Their acts of service and volunteerism exemplifies our motto - To serve not to be served.
The awardees are listed below with the title of their award.
Attendees participated in a sing-a-long lead by Gloria Hoffner, Guitar with Gloria and as part of the sing-a-long Gloria shared facts about each of the songs. Fun time!
Prior to the award portion of the event attendees had the opportunity to meet our Committee Chairs and learn more about our Chapter services. In keeping with the theme of service and giving and the efforts of our Community Services Committee, attendees brought donations of non-perishable food for the Bernardine Center and warm clothing items for Kozy Kids.
