Community Service

Through Community Service our members contribute to their communities as caring people with a strong sense of commitment. The Community Service Committee plans activities to meet the need for improving and extending benefits for retirees and to encourage further services by retirees for the benefit of the community.

Bernardine Center Donation Opportunities

Food Donations to Bernardine Center
Non-Perishable Food Collection: Our main drives for collecting food are at the Fall Luncheon and Spring Luncheon. Please check expiration dates on all food. The Committee would like to extend this throughout the year and is asking Chapter members to bring food donations to every meeting.  Donated food will be given to the Bernardine Center Food Pantry in Chester.
Over the years our Chapter has donated thousands of pounds of food and hundreds of dollars to the Center.

More Volunteer Opportunites

Teacher Teammates Volunteers Welcomed
Teachers’ Teammates teachersteammates.org is a nonprofit built by people in the field of education and residents of Delaware County who recognize that teachers must reach deep into their own wallets far too often to buy the basic supplies their classrooms need.
Our mission is to ensure all K-12 teaches and students in Delaware County, PA, have the resources to thrive in their education.
We believe teachers do not teach in a vacuum. They should know they have the support of families and the community at large. We are all responsible for our children’s education.

Thresholds Delaware County Volunteers Teach Decision Making Skills
Thresholds www.thresholdsdelco.org is a non-profit organization that teaches a decision making program to interested inmates in Delaware County prisons. The program serves men and women at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility (Delaware County Prison) located in Thornton, men at the State Correctional Institution at Chester (SCI-Chester), and juveniles at the Juvenile Detention Center in Lima.  Volunteers can choose to teach in one or both prisons or at the Juvenile Facility in Lima.
Through the use of a workbook, volunteers teach inmates an essential thought process needed to make decisions and to solve problems. This allows clients to gain control over their lives and develop a more positive self-image.  They are then better equipped to cope with life when they return to their families and the community as tax paying citizens. Click link to learn more about volunteering with Thresholds.

To become a volunteer call the Thresholds office at 484-301-0590 or email: [email protected] .
